The intersection of art and functionality - small batch, handmade ceramics that enhance everyday living.
Wendy Schmidt
I was introduced to ceramics by my grandmother who had an endless energy for art - sculpting, clay, painting, sewing, loom weaving rugs and mixed media.
In 7th grade, I made a small, slip cast toothpick holder during a visit to her home studio. Little did I know this piece would be something I’d enjoy for such a long time and that clay would become my obsession. I’m passionate about learning and ceramics is a perfect outlet for this energy because it offers endless learning opportunities.
In 2014, I started hand building in Walnut Creek, California and soon joined the Clay Arts Guild. In 2021, I retired from my 30+ year financial services career and immersed myself in clay - exploring the creation of functional objects, surface techniques increasing my understanding of firing processes. Recently, I’ve had the privilege of participating in workshops and I am so grateful for the knowledge shared with me by many artists over the years.
